Gastritis is a general name for a group of conditions characterized by inflammation, irritation or erosion of the lining of the stomach. The cause of gastritis can be a bacterial or viral infection, stress, certain medications, excessive alcohol consumption, bile reflux... With such a list of conditions, it is not surprising that every second person on the planet suffers from gastritis. For some it is asymptomatic, for others it occurs suddenly (acute gastritis), for others it prevents them from living permanently (chronic gastritis).Symptoms of gastritis are as follows:
- Stomach upset;
- Loss of appetite.
- hiccups
- bloating.
- nausea
- Vomiting.
- Abdominal pain.
- The stools are dark in color and tarry in consistency.
All this is very unpleasant, and even more unpleasant are the probable consequences of gastritis - such as an ulcer or stomach cancer. But wait to panic! The disease is not so scary if you follow a diet for gastritis.
Who needs a gastritis diet?To anyone whose life he poisons in one way or another.Since gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach, it is extremely important to monitor what goes into the stomach. Some foods contribute to the development and strengthening of inflammation, while others, on the contrary, "calm" it.Even if gastritis is asymptomatic, you should still follow the diet, at least in general - this way you prevent the disease from worsening.
What you should not eat if you have gastritis
The main aspect of nutrition in gastritis is not to irritate the already irritated stomach, that is, to eat the most neutral foods possible. This, of course, does not mean that until the end of time you will be able to eat only chicken and stewed vegetables without salt, but you will have to give up all kinds of spicy, salty, dried, smoked foods, especially if the doctor has prescribed a diet for gastritis with high acidity. So what should you not eat?

- Spicy dishes. This includes many national dishes: Korean kimchi, Thai tom yum, Mexican tacos.
- Fatty foods. This includes fast food - the amount of fat in it is much higher than usual.Studies have repeatedly shown that excessive fat consumption worsens gastritis, and you certainly don't want that.
- Alcohol.Any alcohol is a risk factor that provokes attacks of gastritis, so it is better to give it up completely.Even a small portion can be the last straw.
- Highly acidic foods. This includes, for example, citrus fruits.
- Sweets and pickles.Alas, both irritate the stomach lining, so you'll need to salt and sweeten your food in moderation. This also includes industrially produced juices and carbonated drinks - they are by no means on the list of what you can drink if you have gastritis.
- Bakery. It is better to buy or bake whole wheat bread.
- Kvass.Definitely not.
- Fermented dairy products. The stomach lining is not friendly to them either. This includes whole milk. You can use sour cream, but not much.
- Condiments and sauces.Be careful with them: even ketchup can trigger an attack, not to mention adjika. The grinder with a mixture of peppers will have to be removed from the table, and mustard is also superfluous.
Sometimes the cause of inflammation can be an allergy to something, but these are quite rare cases.
To make it easier for you to navigate, here are examples of foods that should be excluded from the gastritis diet.
You cannot eat:Sausage, fresh bread, baked goods, greasy cheese, candies and cakes, pickles, cakes, scrambled eggs, fried cutlets, porridge, kharcho, dried meat, cherries, currants, cranberries, fried potatoes, semi-finished products, fatty meats, onions, corn, chocolate, nuts, garlic, hard-boiled eggs, instant foods, liver, fatty fish (salmon, fishtuna), canned goods, legumes, mushrooms, unripe fruits.
You cannot drink:cocoa, strong tea, juices, any alcohol, carbonated sugary drinks, energy drinks.
In general, nutrition for gastritis depends on the acidity of the stomach and, accordingly, on whether it should be increased, decreased or "leave it alone".
If you have increased acidity, remove extra coffee, rye bread, citrus fruits, tomatoes, meat and fish broths, turnips, white cabbage, pearl barley, barley and millet. However, you should not overdo it with all these products even with low acidity.By the way, if the temperature is high, you can make milk soups, but if it is low, you should not.
In addition, food sensitivities can vary from person to person, so for example cabbage, nuts or dairy products for gastritis can be tried (strictly outside of exacerbation and in small doses). If everything is fine, then small doses of these products can be left in the diet. But the "let's try" method definitely does not apply to fatty, spicy or salty foods, and certainly not to alcohol. The stomach here definitely won't say thank you, and not because it can't talk.
Diet for gastritis: what you can eat

Now let's talk about what you can eat with gastritis. It may seem that we have already named everything in the previous paragraph, but fortunately, this is not the case. However, before moving on to the list of permitted products, we will give general recommendations from doctors. So:
- Eat in portions - that is, often and in small portions, so as not to overload your stomach.5-6 times a day - and the inflammation will begin to subside.
- Food should be warm.Food that is too cold or too hot will irritate the stomach lining and inflammation will increase.
- The more thoroughly you chew, the better.Regardless of whether you have gastritis with high or low acidity, the gastritis diet primarily involves eliminating foods that can mechanically irritate the stomach. That is why during exacerbations it is recommended to eat pureed, pureed food.
- Everything should be either stewed, boiled or steamed. You should not eat fried foods.
Let's go to the main point: what can you eat with gastritis? The list will be quite impressive. There will be no particular problems if you eat:
- Lean meat: chicken, turkey, ideally rabbit.Steamed cutlets, roast meat, tongue.
- Low-fat fish: pollock or hake.
- Dry white bread, maybe yesterday's bread.
- Dairy products are low in fat and sugar and will benefit from probiotics.
- Pasta (small, wholemeal is better, but plain pasta, eg 'cobweb' will do).
- Vegetables: broccoli, pumpkin, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes, zucchini. You can eat greens - dill, parsley, just cut them smaller.
- Fruits: Baked apples are number one.If the acidity is low, you can use citrus fruits. All fruits must be ripe.
- Sweets: marshmallows, marshmallows, honey, sour jam or jam in small quantities.
- Dairy products: cottage cheese and cottage cheese dishes, low-fat milk, kefir, yogurt.
- Butter: butter or refined vegetable oil.
- Broths: vegetable, with low acidity, meat and fish, in any case - weak.
- Cereals: buckwheat, rice, oatmeal, semolina, you can cook porridge, make puddings or casseroles.
- Eggs: soft-boiled, in the form of a steamed omelette (it goes well in the microwave, by the way).
As you can see, the disease allows you to eat a varied and balanced diet.If a child is diagnosed with inflammation of the stomach, then the question of what can be eaten with gastritis is also not worth it, just follow the list above. Now for the drinking:
- Dried fruit compote and more - we remember kindergarten.By the way, very tasty and healthy.
- Sour.
- Weak tea.
- For low acidity - coffee.
- Decoction of rose hips.
Let's repeat once again - it is especially important to follow a diet during exacerbations and two weeks after them.In other cases, you can pamper yourself, but it is better not to get carried away with this, otherwise you will have to sit on porridge and pureed soups for half a month - not a good prospect.
